Learning from experience is invaluable, but gaining wisdom from a knowledgeable senior is like shining a guiding light through the darkness of ignorance.
To help students overcome exam anxiety, combat nervousness, and prepare confidently for their board exams, St. John’s organized a special event titled “Alumina: Navigating Challenges and Achieving Success” on 24 January 2025. This interactive session brought two distinguished alumni, Ms. Nagam Verma and Ms. Tanushree Tyagi, back to their alma mater to share their insights and strategies with the students of Classes X and XII. The alumni were warmly honored by the Chairman, Rev. Fr. T.J. Johnson, and the Principal, Ms. Reeja Ninan, for their participation and contributions.
The first speaker, Ms. Nagam Verma, currently pursuing a B.Sc. in Information Technology from Amity University, Noida, spoke on the topic “Tackling Challenges as a Fresher.” She encouraged students to define their own version of success, celebrate even the smallest achievements, and avoid comparing themselves with others. Highlighting the importance of a growth mindset, she urged students to view setbacks as opportunities for improvement. Ms. Verma also emphasized analyzing mistakes made during pre-board exams, developing strategies to address them, and embracing challenges with positivity and resilience.
The second speaker, Ms. Tanushree Tyagi, a skilled orator pursuing English Honors at Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, shared her thoughts on strategies for conquering board exams with a positive mindset. Her inspiring and versatile words instilled confidence in the students and helped ease their anxieties. Her advice not only motivated the attendees but also reassured them that a calm and focused mind is the key to success.
Following their speeches, an engaging interactive session allowed students to voice their doubts and queries, which were addressed thoughtfully by both alumni. The session proved to be an enlightening and empowering experience for the students.
As the event drew to a close, Principal Ms. Reeja Ninan expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their valuable contributions. She shared her own words of encouragement and presented tokens of appreciation to the speakers.
The event concluded on an inspiring note, leaving the students motivated and enriched by the wisdom and achievements of their seniors. It was a proud moment for St. John’s to see its alumni returning to guide the next generation, fostering a legacy of support, growth, and shared success.
