“Language is the road map of a culture.” — Rita Mae Brown
Class- Grade 1 and Grade 2
Date – 04/ 12/25
To celebrate the beauty of languages and to help young learners appreciate cultural diversity, the school organized a Language Tree Display and Language Heritage Wall activity for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. The event aimed to introduce children to the idea that languages come from different families and that every language has a unique history and identity.
Students enjoyed identifying languages they already knew, such as English, Hindi, and their mother tongues. The visual and interactive nature of the tree helped them understand that many languages are connected and that each one is special.
Language Heritage Wall
The Language Heritage Wall highlighted the languages spoken by the students. Each child contributed by writing the word “mother” in their home language.
This activity helped students feel proud of their linguistic backgrounds and gave them an opportunity to learn about the languages their classmates speak. It encouraged respect, curiosity, and appreciation for cultural diversity within the classroom.
Outcome of the Activity
The Language Tree Display and Heritage Wall created an engaging learning experience for young learners. Students:
- Recognized that languages have roots and histories
- Celebrated the variety of languages within their own classroom
- Developed awareness of Indian languages
- Learned the importance of respecting and valuing different cultures
The event was both educational and enjoyable, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among junior level.
