On May 28, 2025, St. John’s School welcomed its teaching staff to a rejuvenating yoga session led by the esteemed retired instructor, Mr. Rais Abbas. Aimed at fostering physical vitality, mental serenity, and sustainable wellness, the workshop opened with a concise overview of yoga’s daily-life benefits—highlighting its power to enhance focus, alleviate stress, and support overall health.
Mr. Abbas then guided participants through a thoughtfully curated sequence of asanas. Beginning with Tadasana (Mountain Pose) to establish proper alignment, the group moved on to Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) for balance, Mandookasana (Frog Pose) for gentle hip opening, and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) to strengthen the spine. Each posture was demonstrated with precision and accompanied by clear, step-by-step explanations. Throughout, Mr. Abbas offered invaluable pointers on maintaining correct form and coordinating breath with movement.
Beyond physical postures, the session incorporated practical strategies for an anxiety-free lifestyle. Teachers explored simple mindfulness techniques, optimal sleep routines, nutritious eating habits, and brief breathing exercises designed to calm the mind between lessons. This holistic approach ensured that every attendee walked away with accessible tools to manage daily stress and cultivate inner balance.
The workshop concluded with an engaging Q\&A, during which staff members sought clarification on alignment cues and home-practice tips. Ms. Reeja Ninan, Principal of St. John’s School, praised the initiative: “It’s wonderful to see our teachers prioritize their well-being in such a focused and supportive environment.” In a tranquil, focused atmosphere, the day reaffirmed the value of integrating yoga into our routines for a more harmonious, healthful life.
