‘I am a strong girl because a strong woman raised me.’
This quote resonated deeply with the self-defense workshop held on November 8, 2024, at St. John’s School, where the focus was on empowering female students to build self-confidence and resilience. This meaningful initiative, led by experts from ‘The Kavach Self Defense Training System’, aimed to equip the girls with practical skills for self-protection, preparing them to respond confidently to challenging situations. As one of India’s most trusted organizations for realistic street-fight self-defense, Kavach has gained respect for training people of all ages to handle real-life scenarios effectively.
The workshop opened with a warm welcome to the Kavach team, who introduced the girls to the value of self-defense beyond physical strength. The instructors emphasized that true self-defense is rooted in self- confidence, awareness, and proper technique. Through active engagement, they debunked common stereotypes, reinforcing that with the right techniques, anyone—regardless of physique—can protect themselves.
Throughout the sessions, Kavach trainers demonstrated techniques designed to handle unexpected threats. Participants learned strategies for managing common attack scenarios, methods to escape holds, and ways to create distance and call for help. The interactive format encouraged the girls to practice and ask questions, fostering a supportive environment where each student could develop confidence in her capabilities. Hands- on exercises showed the girls that self-defense is an empowering skill, enhancing their sense of personal strength and security in various situations.
The workshop was thoughtfully organized into three sessions, tailored to students from classes V to VI, VII to VIII, and IX to XI, ensuring that each age group received age-appropriate instruction. This approach allowed the training to be as effective as possible for each group, giving students a valuable learning experience. By the end of the workshop, the girls not only gained essential self-defense skills but also felt an uplifted sense of confidence and personal empowerment.
St. John’s School’s initiative to host this workshop underscores its dedication to the safety, empowerment, and well-being of its female students. The day concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Ms. Saba Zaidi, who commended both the Kavach team and the students for their enthusiastic involvement. This inspiring workshop left each participant feeling more prepared, confident, and empowered—making it a truly invaluable experience for all.
