On October 28th, St. John's School, in association with Christ University, organized a workshop titled "Learning Beyond Classroom." The session, guided by Prof. Dr. Harleen Kaur and Prof. Dr. Anganabha Baruah, aimed to foster students' creativity, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills through a variety of engaging activities.
The workshop opened with activities that encouraged students to freely express their imaginations and emotions through dance and art, enabling them to depict both their passions and their fears on paper. This creative segment allowed students to connect deeply with their feelings while exploring self-expression in a safe space.
Meditation exercises followed, helping participants to center their focus on visualizing things within and around them. Through this exercise, students practiced techniques in mindfulness and visualization, which promoted relaxation and self-awareness.
The workshop also placed emphasis on the importance of friendships and spreading positivity. Students discussed ways to make friends feel happy, learning how small acts of kindness and empathy can strengthen bonds and build a more supportive community.
Several interactive activities enriched the experience further. An icebreaker challenged students to connect words while avoiding certain letters, which encouraged quick thinking and adaptability. A guessing game akin to dumb charades had ten volunteers enact or give clues about objects drawn from a box, fostering teamwork and engagement among participants.
To instill values of empathy and open-mindedness, a short video titled "Snack Attack" was screened, reminding students of the importance of avoiding judgment based on first impressions. Finally, a drawing exercise allowed participants to illustrate their favorite fictional character and reflect on the qualities they admired, which provided a fun, reflective close to the session.
This workshop effectively combined fun and learning, leaving participants with valuable lessons in creativity, mindfulness, empathy, and friendship.
