On the 23rd of August, St. John’s School’s auditorium came alive with the voice acting workshop, featuring the esteemed Ms. Neshma Chemburkar as the guest speaker. The event kicked off with a warm welcome from the Music teacher, Mr. Yash Sondhi, who then invited Ms. Gulshan Vohra to the stage. Ms. Vohra enthusiastically introduced Ms. Neshma Chemburkar to the eager students, setting the tone for an engaging and inspiring session. With over 35 years of experience, Ms. Chemburkar has become a celebrated voice and dubbing artist, known for her contribution as Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers (Hindi), Misty in Pokémon, and Blossom in Powerpuff Girls. The audience was captivated as her impressive portfolio was showcased.
Throughout the workshop, Ms. Chemburkar shared invaluable insights into her career, which began at the tender age of four. She delved into the nuances of voice modulation and the crucial role of observation in voice acting. The students were introduced to various styles of voice acting, including the subtlety of Voice Overs and the precise art of Character Dubbing, where synchronization with the character’s lip movements is key.
Ms. Chemburkar also treated the audience to examples of her work, featuring clips from shows like Pokémon and the acclaimed series The Crown on Netflix. Her command over multiple languages opened a vast canopy of opportunities. Her grasp over English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, and Punjabi left a lasting impression on everyone present there. She emphasized that voice acting is a field open to all, regardless of age, and offers ample job opportunities with a professional degree after Class 12.
The workshop was highly interactive, with students enthusiastically participating under Ms. Chemburkar's guidance. They experimented with different characters, discovering their vocal potential and gaining hands-on experience in that craft.
As a special highlight, Ms. Chemburkar also promoted the upcoming release of Transformers, where her voice work will feature prominently. The film is set to be released on the 20th of August, adding an exciting note to the event.
The session concluded on a thoughtful gesture as the principal Ms. Reeja Ninan, presented Ms. Chemburkar with a small sapling, symbolizing the school’s appreciation and a wish for continued growth and collaboration. The workshop left a profound impact on the students, inspiring many to explore the fascinating world of voice acting.
