"For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."

The Independence Day has a special place in the heart of every Indian. Not only does it symbolize the celebration of wonderful years of freedom but also extend an emphatic message of the progressive future of our country.
We Johnians celebrated “Independence Week” from 11th – 15th August 2023 to commemorate the 77th anniversary of India’s struggle for independence. This proud celebration was named on the theme “Meri Maati Mera Desh”. To enhance the importance of this day a weeklong extravaganza of programmes were organised in the school in which students of all classes participated. This week-long celebration culminated in the flag hoisting ceremony which was held in the school on 15th August. Mr. S.N. Srivastava, Former Commissioner of Police, Delhi along with Mr. Rajesh Upadhaya, Jila Adhyaksh from Bhartiya Kisan Union have consented to be the Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively to grace the occasion. Their speech on the combined theme of “Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan” highlighted the importance of celebrating the spirit of freedom and understanding the true essence of freedom by our country’s youth, exhorted the students to cherish freedom and create an atmosphere where there is an ‘absence of conflict’ for true development in the country. Every word of their speech infused the audience with pride for being the citizens of a nation which has such a glorious past.
The cultural program started with a splendid and soulful rendition by a group of students and the welcome speech by the Cultural Secretary of the school, Muskan Tiwari (Class XI), acknowledging the sacrifices made by our soldiers. The atmosphere got charged up when the students performed a beautiful dance skit to pay a tribute to our nation's armed forces. It gave all a relentless reminder about the bravery of the courageous soldiers who wrote a tale of valor. Indeed, it was a day of elation, a day of love and respect for the country, instilling in the Johnians, the value and reverence for the gift of freedom by the great leaders of the country
The Principal addressed the gathering, appealing to their nationalistic spirit and urged them to take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling one’s duty with responsibility. This was followed by a musical rendition of patriotic songs by the school choir.
The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the Sports Captain of the school, Aditya Sanju (Class XII). The students went home with a sense of pride for their nation that’s full of diversity, equality and inclusivity. There is no doubt this celebration will go a long way in generating patriotic mood, promoting love for nation and inspiring high esteem for the rich cultural diversity of our country.
