We always believe in the power of Storytelling, creative thinking, and learning through alternative means. To encourage these skills and perform a lesson through storytelling, a workshop was conducted for the teachers of St. John’s School on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The session was headed by Ms. Annapoorani, a storyteller, a Carnatic singer, and a writer on holistic growth for Life Positive. This Storytelling Workshop is designed to help teachers to improve their own storytelling and also to help them to assist their students to improve their storytelling. Workshop exhorted the participants think about how stories could be used to teach educational subjects and prepare lesson plans. For finding and creating stories, a series of creativity exercises are used, involving actions, emotions, and concepts (using one’s imagination). Environmental Studies is a very popular subject in relation to storytelling, so she started there, giving examples of educational story-making and storytelling activities in relation to: the inter-connectedness of elements of eco-systems, etc. She then also considered stories in relation to other educational subject matter. It was an endeavour to empower the educators and enrich them with some criteria of Good Storytelling for a better teaching and learning experience.
