“The human spirit is stronger than anything that nothing can happen to it.” On 31st January 2023, St. John’s School, Greater Noida West in collaboration with International Oncology Cancer Institute which fortifies hope, compassion and empathy arranged for a cervical cancer awareness session in which around 360 girls participated in 2 slots. The session was headed by Dr. Sarika Bansal, a clinical oncologist from the institute. Although the session was primarily for cervical cancer, the students were made aware of the major types of cancer. The session was quite informative. Wherein, the students were made aware that it can be passes genetically as well and so everyone needs to be cautious and do self examination for breast cancer until the age of 30 and then yearly screening called mamography to rule out the possibilities as ‘Prevention is better than cure’. The most common cancer in males is lung cancer and in females it is breast cancer. On cervical cancer the students were informed that it is caused due to HPE virus and the only cancer for which vaccine is available. The age group which can be vaccinated under this is 9-15 years. The people around can take simple preventive measures to stay away from it. The session was conducted ti curtail the unawareness on this topic and definitely was a fruitful one as not only the students were educated on this topic but they would carry this knowledge home and pass it to others.
